A play around with colour and sound, RGB Steve.
I had originally written this video idea as something I’d use this little multi-coloured light I have but, when I considered how I could control the light source, I decided to do the colour changing in Final Cut instead. As a result, it took quite a while to cut up the entire video clip and apply a different colour scheme to each clip. The entire idea was to give each clip a variation of R G B (red, green, blue) in time with the soundtrack. I’m not sure if there is any easier way to do it though the thought of trying to do this on actual film did cross my mind. I’m not sure if that would make things any easier.
This video wasn’t supposed to be overly complicated rather a simple exercise of sound and colour. I wanted to keep things simple but I also wanted to move away from only doing computer graphics. This was an attempt to “keep things real,” in a manner of speaking.
The Soundtrack was made using my cell phone, imported into FCX and several effects were then applied: Pitch, Transformer, Robot and a few others.
At one point during the video you can hear the soundtrack distort. That’s not intentional but I have no idea what’s causing it. It might be the export but is more likely a distortion caused by the compilation of sound effects running through the audio channel. I left it in the final version as it didn’t take away from the overall video but I am aware that it is a bit jolting to all of a sudden wonder if that’s supposed to happen.
Overall, a simple exercise in sound and colour, the hardest part was cutting up each clip in time with the music and then finding a shade of RGB that wasn’t completely like the others I’d already used.
