Here it is! First track of January 2021 for #Jamuary2021! I recorded this as I was writing up my introductory post on the whole challenge I’ve set for myself this January.
I’ve left the title as is because I think it appropriately identifies both what the song is and how it was made. According to the chart that Jonathan Mann published to help people get going on this project, the track was supposed to be done in one take, and that’s exactly what you hear. It’s an in-the-moment, hands-on-table, I-used-what-I-had-available-to-me, type of recording.
What did I use?
My cell phone’s default sound recorder and then I imported it to Logic Pro X and exported an MP3 copy.
I was going to use Audacity but, since my phone records in AAC format, I couldn’t import it without installing the FFMPEG plugin, and that would’ve required more steps. Instead, I chose the most expedient method for me and that was to use Logic Pro X. This way, it’s done and dusted.
Can’t download? Basically the track is me playing a bunch of rhythms on a table with just my hands. These are rhythms I’ve played thousands of times on table tops and laps all over the world. I kinda wanted to get them out of my head already (cause, y’know, the djembe tracks I recorded years ago still hasn’t seen the light of day) and simply publish them. So there they are. Feel free to replicate them on your work desk or wherever you are.
