Not sure why but recently my Instagram has been disabled and I can’t access the original account any more. Access to the adjoining accounts (stevensirskipodcast, mayyoumakeyourmovie) is spotty. It might have something to do with the low storage space on my phone, something I hope to address in short order.
Given this latest loss of photo history, I am wondering if there might be a better place to host photos. I know Instagram was never meant to be a primary source nor backup solution, but if an account can be locked out, it doesn’t seem like a very good idea to depend on it for much else other than a secondary outlet.
Sure, there are still sites like Flickr or other photo-hosting platforms, but Instagram has the public’s eye and makes it really easy to tweak the look of a photo without using another APP. It’s also an APP that I use for workout and stretching ideas.
I could also just host directly to my website but then I’d have to compress the images myself in addition to renaming them and filing them properly. This might sound like a no brainer to some but given the volume I sometimes generate (usually due to travel), it gets to be a tedious and bothersome part of the process that takes the fun out of it.
An example of how I could upload photos to my website, but these were previously uploaded to Instagram and so have been crunched and filtered already:
It also took quite a while to upload that gallery so I can’t imagine doing that with more photos.
So, that being the case, as much as I’d like to have my old account back, I’m not sure that’s going to happen. I’m not sure why it was disabled but I’m not the only one to have that happen. Reddit has threads full of people trying to get their accounts back. Luckily, this isn’t like losing a phone or a hard drive, I do have the photos backed up on different drives so they are still accessible, just not doing anything other than occupying hard drive space.
I guess I could just make photo-videos and put those up on YouTube or somewhere. It’s an idea.
