A noticeable change in weather

Well, it finally happened. It snowed.

It was inevitable, I suppose, as it is October, a month that is usually the forefront of winter. Here’s a look at the historical weather of Winnipeg:

October is the month when the temperature finally drops below zero. And this is what Winnipeggers have to look forward to in the coming days:

As for the rest of the year, the Government of Canada forecasts a normal winter for Winnipeg and much of the prairies:

The one good thing about Winnipeg’s winter is that it is at least sunny. I couldn’t find the most recent data but here’s a snapshot of the sunniest cities in Canada in 2013, Winnipeg is #11 with 880 hours of sunshine:

So, although the cold and the snow do linger on, at least it looks nice and, what’s more, it’s sunny. If Winnipeg didn’t have the sunny days then I think the city would be a lot more depressing and the winters a little tougher to get through.

There are things to look forward to, for those who are staying in the city or are planning on visiting. The Festival du Voyager is one notable example and, more recently, I see that Winnipeg has added a type of snow and ice show, much like the one in Harbin, China, but maybe not on the same scale.

Anyway, it’s here. Winter is rearing its head and it’s time to pull out the parkas, toques and mitts and Sorels and turn up the heat indoors!
