May You Make Your Movie – May 2, 2021 – Fun with Slo Mo

May 2, 2021 – Fun with Slo Mo

Today I experimented with Slo Mo on my cell phone and GoPro. Ranges include 120, 240 and 960 fps. One of the issues with the 960 setting is that it only recorded a very short clip and only the last quarter of the entire video would be super Slo Mo. 240fps went longer and I was able to do that with both my phone and GoPro.

Film Grain look applied to all clips in Final Cut. Soundtrack composed in Logic Pro using the Jazzy Drumset clips 01-13 and a fill.

The video on YouTube now has a copyright claim against it since it is an Apple Loop. I thought these were free to use since the product is purchased as a whole. I’ll look into it a little bit more. This happened with Garageband before and all I had to do was write to Youtube and point to the link on the Apple website that states they are royalty free. What bothers me is that if I ever go back to re-do this video, I won’t be able to fix the date so that it shows up as May 2nd. I’ll lose my consistency, that’s all.

Anyway, this video took a little bit longer to make than I would have liked and not all of the shots I did made it into it. I also shot a water bottle pouring into a cup, some mist from a squirt bottle, a blinking light, and a drumstick. It was sometimes difficult to get the cameras set up so close and in focus given that I only have the fixed lenses on the phone and GoPro.

There were some bumps along the way in terms of getting Final Cut and Logic talking to each other. For whatever reason, Final Cut doesn’t recognize my Logic Audio library so I have to export the final video and then import it into Logic to work on the soundtrack. I did look at a few posts online (notably https://support.apple.com/en-sg/guide/final-cut-pro/ver5fb43c4b4/mac) but that didn’t solve the issue.

It’s done and on to the next!
